30 August 2010 News Not Guilty. On June 21, 2010 Jeremiah P. Connolly and Gregory V. Ginex obtained a defense verdict on behalf of Tishman Speyer Properties, Tishman Speyer Holdings and TST 525 Monroe in a toxic mold exposure case where plaintiff alleged permanent brain damage as a result of working in the 525 W. Monroe building in Chicago. Plaintiff alleged that she was exposed to toxic mold while working as an attorney for the law firm of Katten, Muchin, Zavis. The defense contended that plaintiff was not exposed to toxic mold and that plaintiff’s alleged cognitive dysfunction was due to plaintiff’s extensive psychiatric history. Plaintiff asked the jury for 16.5 million.

In a recent landmark ruling from the Supreme Court of New York, New York County, DRI member Edward Ruberry of the Chicago law firm Bollinger, Ruberry & Garvey obtained a finding from the court that a policy limits settlement by his client, Lincoln General Insurance Company, extinguished the client’s duty to defend its named insured and additional insureds. The court’s decision was the result of Lincoln General’s efforts to intervene and settle one of the numerous claims that sprang from a 2008 crane collapse in New York City. continue reading
5 February 2010 News NOT GUILTY Nicholas A. Riewer and Gregory V. Ginex obtained a defense verdict on behalf of George Nissan, D.O., Betsy Pepper, M.D. and the Diamond Headache Clinic in a wrongful death medical malpractice case. Plaintiff alleged that her sixteen year old son was wrongfully prescribed Effexor XR, an antidepressant, for treatment of his migraine headaches. Plaintiff further alleged that the administration of Effexor XR caused plaintiff's decedent to commit suicide on February 4, 2004. Plaintiff requested 2.5 million from the jury.
2 October 2009 News John J. Moroney, J.D. was a guest speaker at the National Operations Meeting for W.E. O'Neil Construction Company. O'Neil is one of the largest, most successful and safety conscious general contractors in the United States. Mr. Moroney discussed changes in Illinois law on the topics of insurance risk transfer, defect claims, and construction injury claims.

17 November 2009 News NOT GUILTY Nicholas A. Riewer and Gregory V. Ginex obtained a defense verdict on behalf of Jason Birnholz, M.D., and Diagnostic Ultrasound Consultants in a wrongful birth medical malpractice case. Plaintiffs alleged that had various abnormalities been identified on ultrasound, they would have terminated the pregnancy. Plaintiffs requested $3.8 - $4.2 million from the jury for the past and future costs of caring for their son. The jury returned a verdict in less than one hour in favor of the defense.
23 October 2009 News NOT GUILTY Congratulations to Barry G. Bollinger on obtaining the most significant defense verdict in Cook County history. In 2006, a Cook County jury rendered a $35 million dollar verdict against Debra Thedos and the Cook County Sheriff's Office, in the case entitled Petraski v. Thedos, et al. Following that verdict, the excess carrier for the defendants placed Barry as lead appellate and trial counsel. The appeal of the verdict was successful and the retrial of the case, with Barry as lead defense counsel, resulted in a verdict of Not Guilty.
14 May 2008 News Greg Ginex successfully co-chaired the defense of Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in a medical malpractice case against the law firm of Corboy & Demetrio. The Plaintiffs asked for over $16 Million. The co-defendant doctor offered his $1 Million policy prior to trial. The jury returned a verdict in favor of all Defendants.
14 May 2007 News John J. Moroney, J.D. , Partner at Bollinger, Ruberry & Garvey, has recently been selected to serve as an author in the 2007 Illinois Construction Manual by West Publications.
29 Jan 2007 News Bollinger, Ruberry and Garvey is pleased to announce that three of its partners, Barry Bollinger, Jerry Connolly, and Robert J. Franco have been named Illinois 2007 Super Lawyers by Law & Politics, and featured in Chicago Magazine, Law & Politics magazine and Illinois Super Lawyer. Mr. Bollinger, Mr. Connolly and Mr. Franco have been previous honorees.
11 Aug 2006 Event Seminar: At the request of BRG's client CNA, John J. Riewer, a Partner at BRG, conducted a dental malpractice seminar for roughtly 50 dentists and several CNA adjusters. The seminar addressed a wide range of dental/legal topics geared toward prevention of a claim or suit, and advice on dealing with such legal situations if they should occur.
